From May 18 to 20, 2024, the city of Saint-Malo (France) hosted the emblematic Etonnants Voyageurs Book and Film Festival , with the support of the OIF. 7 winners of the Prix des 5 continents de la Francophonie were there for this unmissable cultural event which welcomed 45,000 visitors.
This 34th edition, at the crossroads of disciplines, brought together 150 authors from around the world and offered 250 thematic literary meetings, an exceptional number of round tables, debates, exhibitions and screenings, with a spotlight on literature Quebecois which is particularly distinguished by its diversity, its richness and its audacity.
A round table devoted to the Prize of the 5 continents of the Francophonie in the presence of the 2024 winner, Éric Chacour (Canada-Québec), Liliana Lazar and Yahia Belaskri, former winners and respectively members of the Prize jury, took place on March 19 in the Quebec house in Saint-Malo. “ The beauty of this Prize is that it is a world prize which is awarded by jurors of great literary stature, a Prize which takes you on a journey and which opens phenomenal doors for a writer and especially for a beginner. novelist. It’s a wonderful gift ,” said Eric Chacour. The large audience was captivated by this meeting which discussed in particular the author’s sources of inspiration, multiple identities, the richness of characters, and the writing processes used. Readings of extracts from the novel also punctuated the discussions.
This year, the Festival brought together 7 winners of the Prix des 5 continents de la Francophonie: Eric Chacour (2024), Yahia Belaskri (2022), Beata Umubyeyi Mairesse (2020), Liliana Lazar (2010), Hubert Haddad (2008), Ananda Devi (2006), Mathias Énard (2004) through meetings, readings and debates around world literature and the French-speaking world.
Each year, the OIF supports this festival with the aim of promoting a plural and innovative literary scene, of bringing together sensitive and generous voices that resonate and of encouraging encounter and openness to society and the world through book.
