At the invitation of the Malagasy authorities, the Secretary General of La Francophonie, Madame Louise Mushikiwabo, dispatched an Electoral Mission of La Francophonie (MEF) to the occasion of the legislative elections in Madagascar on May 29, 2024.
Present in this member state since May 24, the MEF met with national authorities and institutions, political actors, civil society organizations and international partners.
Interviews with various national and international partners as well as observations made on election day made it possible to assess the conditions for preparing and holding the legislative elections. In a preliminary declaration (see below) following the vote, presented on May 31, the MEF delivered its first conclusions aimed at strengthening democracy and the rule of law in Madagascar.
The OIF has 88 states and governments: 54 members, 7 associate members and 27 observers.
