At the invitation of the Permanent Mission of Mozambique which chairs the United Nations Security Council for the month of May, the OIF contributed on May 28, 2024 to the Ministerial Debate of the Security Council on the theme “Maintaining peace and of international security: the role of women and young people”.
On behalf of the Secretary General of La Francophonie, the Representative of the OIF to the United Nations in New York welcomed the particular attention given to the implementation of two crucial agendas for building lasting peace: the agendas “women, peace and security” and “youth, peace and security”.
The OIF is actively mobilized in the implementation of these two agendas. The contribution of its networks of expertise and professionals is supplemented by targeted projects, developed in partnership with specialized operators such as Senghor University in Alexandria.
As an illustration, the Representative of the OIF mentioned in her intervention the online training initiated in October 2023 with a view to supporting the operationalization in Africa of national action plans on the “Women, peace and security” agenda. »: unique training in French for the benefit of key stakeholders and gender focal points in French-speaking countries, which will be continued in the second half of 2024 and will benefit a greater number of OIF member states.
She also announced the ambition of the OIF to fill the system of strengthening the skills available in the French language through training in progress on the implementation of the “Youth, peace and security” agenda.
This contribution of the OIF to the ministerial debate of the United Nations Security Council offers the opportunity to establish the visibility of the programmatic action of the OIF and to underline its anchoring in the multilateral agenda.
