The challenges of international digital governance and artificial intelligence (AI) made the news at International Geneva between May 27 and 31, 2024, with the holding of two major meetings: the World Summit of the Society of information (SMSI) and the “AI for good” Summit.As part of the WSIS, the OIF Representation in Geneva, leader of the Francophonie on these issues of international digital and AI governance, organized two high-level events which were a great success. audience. The first workshop, organized in partnership with UNESCO’s Information for All program (IFAP), and with the participation of two representatives of committed French-speaking startups, provided an opportunity to discuss the fight against cultural and linguistic bias in the AI and ways to promote the discoverability of French-speaking content.The second event brought together many digital experts from French-speaking diplomatic missions for a discussion between Renata Dwan, senior advisor at the office of the United Nations Envoy for Technology, and Sorina Teleanu, expert at the Diplo Foundation in Geneva, around the issues and perspectives of the Global Digital Compact currently being negotiated in New York.These two high-level meetings are fully part of the advocacy work around French-speaking priorities that La Francophone has been carrying out for several months now in the context of the negotiation of this Pact, which will be an integral part of the United Nations Future Summit in September. next.
Promote French-speaking civic tech
On the sidelines of the WSIS, the OIF Representation in Geneva organized, in partnership with the ICT4Peace Foundation, an event to promote French-speaking civic Tech.Four social entrepreneurs (Open Terms Archive, Sayna, Siren Analytics and Fondation Hirondelle) had the opportunity to present their respective activities, where artificial intelligence tools serve “public service” objectives: democratic control conditions of use of digital platforms, fight against disinformation or training in digital professions for disadvantaged populations..Projects actively supported by the OIF which wanted to make their work known to as many people as possible, convinced that many partnerships are possible with the organizations of International Geneva.
