On May 7, 2024, the OIF Representation for the Indian Ocean participated alongside the Urban Commune of Antananarivo (CUA) in the delivery of civil status certificates to 4,000 children from 32 fokontany (villages/neighborhoods ).
This ceremony marked the end of the activities carried out in 2023, which made it possible to reach 11,894 beneficiaries and was part of the dynamic of the celebration of the international day of children in street situations, on April 12. During his speech, the new President of the
AUC special delegation expressed sincere thanks to the OIF, on behalf of the Malagasy authorities, for its constant commitment. He recalled that this action, supported by the OIF, aimed to confer a legal identity to these often invisible children, thus highlighting a persistent problem in Antananarivo, while highlighting the need for their recognition and protection. On the occasion of this event, the partnership between the AUC and the OIF was strengthened with the signing of the grant agreement protocol for the year 2024.
Since 2020, the OIF has actively engaged alongside the government of Madagascar to strengthen and modernize its civil status system, thus guaranteeing equitable access to an identity. 52,100 people, particularly children, have already benefited from this project.
